At Britive, we’re thrilled to welcome Patrick Welch as our new Chief Revenue Officer. With 15 years of experience in identity / cybersecurity and 12 years in cloud, Patrick is a powerhouse in the industry, known for scaling companies from startup phases to successful exits and IPOs.

His impressive track record includes leadership roles at companies like Bigtincan, Aveksa, Netegrity, and Apperian, where he helped establish strong go-to-market strategies and build high-performing teams.

Patrick started working closely with the team in September to begin bringing his unique vision to our mission of redefining and revolutionizing cloud-native privileged access management.

The team sat down with Patrick to get his thoughts around joining Britive and the movement in the market. Below is a writeup of his thoughts:

The Journey: From Foundational Security to Cloud Innovation

Tell us a little bit about your background and experience. How does Britive play a part in the greater trajectory of your career?

I’ve had the privilege of building a career focused on innovation in cybersecurity and identity management, tracing back to some defining moments in the identity space. I was fortunate to be part of pioneering teams at companies like Netegrity, where we laid the groundwork for IAM and took the company public. At Aveksa, we pushed the boundaries of Identity Governance and Administration, ultimately leading to our acquisition by RSA Security. Most recently, at Bigtincan, I helped lead the team to the IPO stage, all while advancing in the cloud SaaS space.

Joining Britive is exciting because it represents the next frontier in identity and security for the cloud era. The cloud has transformed what it means to secure identity and access.

Securing cloud access isn’t about adding more barriers – it’s about creating an ecosystem that accelerates business growth while protecting critical data and information. Security, to me, should act as an enabler rather than an obstacle to cloud innovation and agility. Britive’s approach to cloud-native privileged access management embodies that philosophy.

Security, to me, should act as an enabler rather than an obstacle to cloud innovation and agility.

The Challenge: Establishing Frictionless Identity Security

How would you describe the challenge that organizations face in their cloud environments in regards to security identities?

In modern multi-cloud environments, security solutions need to do more than prevent breaches; they need to empower teams to innovate without fear and risk.

Over the years, I’ve seen this shift take place – moving from a static, restrictive model of security to one that embraces the flexibility and speed that users expect in the cloud.

With Britive’s just-in-time (JIT) access and ephemeral permissions, security is seamlessly integrated into existing workflows. Whether it’s Kubernetes, Snowflake, or SailPoint, Britive’s platform doesn’t interfere with the work that developers, operations, and security teams need to accomplish day-to-day.

Instead, it supports their workflows, addressing security at the right touchpoints. That kind of frictionless integration is critical in fast-paced, competitive environments.

Key Industry Pain Points Britive Addresses

In your own words, what are the problems that Britive is solving today?

There are several challenges in the market that Britive is uniquely positioned to solve:

  1. Mitigating Risk and Control Loss: IT leaders today shoulder an immense responsibility for securing very complex cloud environments; they often feel exposed to potential risks from standing privileges. Britive’s patented approach to JIT access helps security professionals regain control by addressing gaps and compliance risks that can arise from static, long-lived access.
  2. Simplifying Complexity in Multi-Cloud Environments: Managing permissions across AWS, Azure, GCP, and other infrastructure providers and platforms is a huge undertaking. Britive provides the centralized visibility and control that modern cloud infrastructure demands, streamlining policies to make multi-cloud management feasible without unnecessary operational burden.
  3. Frictionless, User-Friendly Integration: The last thing technical teams need is something else that adds to their “tool fatigue.” IT architects and developers alike need tools that integrate seamlessly with their existing workflows and platforms. Britive achieves this through an API-first approach that allows it to adapt to any existing or future tools that organizations might be using.
  4. Enabling Proactive Security: Security should never inhibit growth and innovation. Britive’s cloud-native PAM is designed to support agile development processes, helping organizations innovate securely at scale, without the pain of having to rework processes and flows for security.
  5. Aligning with Forward-Looking Standards: Zero Trust and cloud-first approaches are the future of security. Britive’s commitment to these frameworks make it a platform that effectively meets the needs of both security and development teams today, while also being future proof and poised to meet tomorrow’s needs as well.

Why Britive?

So why did you ultimately decide to join the Britive team?

The market is growing more complex each day, with AI and other technological advancements putting more pressure on cloud security.

What excites me about Britive’s architecture is its unique, cloud-nativeapproach. Unlike many security solutions that rely on proxy and agent-based models – which can interfere with workflows and even increase risk – Britive is proxyless, agentless, and highly integrated across cloud platforms.

Britive’s platform isn’t just about bolting on security; it’s about building an embedded solution that grows with the cloud. Organizations can maintain their agility and speed in the cloud, without compromising on security. I’m convinced that Britive’s innovation in JIT access, privileged identity management, and securing machine identities or non-human identities (NHIs) is exactly what enterprises need now to safely accelerate cloud adoption.

I chose Britive because of the team's exceptional talent and deep relationships with their world-class, industry-leading customer base. I was also drawn to how Britive approaches cloud security uniquely — demonstrating a deep understanding of the cloud’s complexities and a forward-looking vision for identity. Developed in close collaboration with industry leaders, Britive integrates natively into multi-cloud ecosystems, fundamentally transforming how organizations secure and accelerate their cloud initiatives.

Looking Ahead: An Exciting Time in Cloud Security

Joining Britive at this time is an opportunity to make a real impact. We’re at a moment where security can and should be transformative. Britive isn’t just adding another tool to the cloud stack; we’re rethinking security as a strategic component of cloud innovation. Our mission is to empower organizations to operate with confidence, drive growth, and manage risk across their cloud environments.

I’m excited to be a part of this journey. Together, we’re working to shape the future of cloud-native security and deliver the next generation of IAM solutions. The possibilities are vast, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish.
